As of April 2021, PlayStation Network services remain operational for the handheld. Nevertheless, the handheld had developed something akin to a cult status, as third-party development of games for the system continued well into 2018. Sony cited a lack of interest in dedicated portable devices as users increasingly favor both iOS and Android as gaming platforms over the Vita.
The Vita itself was officially discontinued in Spring 2019, with production having ceased four years earlier. However, due to low sales and interest, the PlayStation TV was discontinued in all markets in February 2016. In Western markets, the console is known as the PlayStation TV. At E3 2014, Sony Interactive Entertainment America announced the localization of the Vita TV. On September 9th, 2013, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan announced the PlayStation Vita TV, a set-top microconsole based on the Vita. It is capable of interacting with the PlayStation 4 through Remote Play.
PlayStation Portable games and PlayStation Network software must be stored in PlayStation Vita memory cards. The PS Vita is backwards compatible with all PlayStation Portable software, but like the PSP Go, it lacks a UMD drive, relying instead on PlayStation Vita cards, a proprietary flash memory card. Japan is also getting a cool-looking limited edition PS Vita hardware bundle.The PlayStation Vita was a handheld system manufactured by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the successor to the PlayStation Portable, released in Winter 2012. If you can't wait that long or want the Vita version, the region-free release is available for import already in both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions thanks to our friends at Play Asia. Square Enix provided no details on the PlayStation Vita release, and it appears it won't launch at the same time - fans wanting their FFX fix on the go will have to either wait or import. There's three versions of the PlayStation 3 edition of the game - the standard featuring the games, a limited edition featuring a 48-page art book, and a digital download version available via the PlayStation store. The game will be a budget release, launching with a price of $39.99 in North America. The game will launch in North America on March 18th 2014, while European fans will have to wait a few additional days for a launch on the 21st of March. After months of fans desperately waiting for a final confirmation, Square Enix has announced a Western release date for Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster.
